Palm Beach County Florida Yards and Neighbors Program

The Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program sponsored by the Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension Service was created to educate property owners about pollution prevention strategies. The strategies include creating a yard that has native Florida vegetation, efficient mulching, recycling of yard waste, efficient watering practices, reduced fertilizer and pesticide application, wildlife attraction, stormwater reduction, and protection of shoreline habitats. The practices stated in the Florida Yards and Neighboorhoods handbook shows ways to become a Certified Florida Yard and create a beautiful landscape that minimizes the amount of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and water use. Implementation of these practices will help protect the natural environment, conserve water, decrease non-point source pollution, and create wildlife attracting landscapes.

For information on qualifications for Certified Florida Yards, you can contact a Palm Beach County Extension Agent at 561-233-1700 or visit the Palm Beach County Florida Yards and Neighborhoods website at www.pbcgov.com/coopext/fyn/index.htm.
